Promise of the Day: 1 Corinthians 15:58

in Promise of the Day

Blessings!

Today’s promise is 1 Corinthians 15:58:

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Stand Firm

The Complete Jewish Bible says, “knowing that united with the Lord, your efforts are not in vain,” (emphasis is mine) which is often overlooked by today’s believers.

I’m a very impatient person, though God is working on that little problem. When something needs to be done, I don’t want to have to read the directions, or learn a new process, I just want to get it done! I’ll figure it out along the way! Unfortunately, what usually happens is that I waste a lot of time and get very frustrated and berate myself–and then I read the directions anyway.

Too often believers plunge into God’s work based on their own understanding, or what other believers have told them. Then they get burned out and actually do more harm than good. What we need to understand is that in order to know what “God’s work” is for us, we must first know God. Only He knows what He created us for, and it is unique to every believer. When we take the time to develope a relationship with The Father, we learn to discern His voice from any other. We learn exactly what work He created us to do, and He gives us all we need to accomplish it. Not even Jesus did His own will on earth, but the will of His Father.

When every believer is “united with The Lord” and doing the work He has given each one of us to do, instead of just trying to get things done, we will finally be united as The Body of Christ. And we will be unstoppable!

Heavenly Father, Thank You for having a plan for me. Please help me make knowing You my top priority. Help me to know Your voice and not get distracted. As I draw closer to You, show me how I can best serve You, that You might be glorified, and help me trust in You to do the work through me, that I might not waste anymore of the precious time You’ve given me on vain pursuits. Amen.

Have a victorious day in The Lord!

Rebecca

Therefore, my beloved Brethren, be ye steadfast (established, with your Faith firmly attached to the Cross of Christ), unmovable (not allowing your Faith to be moved from the Cross of Christ), always abounding in the Word of the Lord (telling others of what Jesus has done, regarding His great victory of the Cross), forasmuch as you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (This is proclaiming that the Word of the Cross will always bring glorious results [1 Corinthians 1:18].) and that is also an awesome verse!

Rebecca, I love this promise! Stand firm then and let nothing move you. That’s what the Lord is teaching me to do. I’ve been dealing with a painful shoulder injury and giving myself fully to the work of the Lord looks like REST. Here I find the stability of His presence and the plumb line of confidence as I heal.

Wow, Lynn!
Did I need to hear that! I, too, have been dealing with a very painful shoulder/collarbone. There seems to be no medical explanation. This weekend our church had some guest speakers who were gifted in healing. Healings going on all around me, yet my pain remains. I will trust in The Lord and His perfect plan, even in this! And I’ll be praying for you!
