Promise of the Day: 1 Peter 5:6

in Promise of the Day

Today’s promise is 1 Peter 5:6:

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”

The two most powerful words in the English language may very well be, “I’m sorry.”

Husbands often joke about learning to say those words to keep the peace in their households, but humility is no joke. Often, when my children squabble, I tell them to apologize and their reply is, “But I didn’t do anything wrong!” I then remind them that Jesus didn’t do anything wrong either, and that we’d all be lost today if He hadn’t humbled himself and taken our blame. It was this humility that made it possible for Jesus to declare that the ruler of this world (Satan) has nothing in Him. Jesus’ willingness to put others before Himself stripped Satan of his authority. That alone is worth more than my pride.

The Kingdom of God is not about being right. Jesus is our righteousness. The Kingdom of God is about unity in love and peace.

Heavenly Father, please help me to walk in an attitude of humility out of sheer gratitude for what You have done for me. Help me to see others through Your eyes, that I might know it is far more important to love than to be “right.” Please forgive me for all the times I have stepped on another person’s heart for the sake of my pride, and give me the strength to make amends wherever possible, that no breach in Your Body be held to my account. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a victorious day in The Lord!
