Promise of the Day: 2 Corinthians 1:6

in Promise of the Day

Today’s promise is 2 Corinthians 1:6:

“Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.”

One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn in my walk with God is that it’s not about me. None of it. For me, it took a tumor in my sacral nerve root. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.

I recently heard the story of a young man who, after receiving a donor heart, began painting beautiful pictures. When he had the opportunity to meet with the parents of the young woman whose heart he’d received, they were amazed to find that the young man’s paintings were nearly identical to those the young woman had painted before her tragic death. Before his transplant, the young man had never painted.

When we are born of God we receive His heart–sometimes immediately, sometimes gradually. What’s important is that, as any great father, God’s heart is not set on Himself, but on His children. If we submit to this life giving heart transplant, we too will rejoice in our adversities as well as God’s comfort, knowing that it’s not about us, but about building and strengthening the Body of Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for wanting to be my Father. Please help me remember that I left myself at the Cross and was raised to new life in Christ. I want Your heart, Father. Let me be an instrument of Your love, ever caring for my brothers and sisters selflessly. Lord, be glorified in me today! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a victorious day in The Lord!
