Promise of the Day: John 1:4, 5

in Promise of the Day

Today’s promise is John 1:4, 5 (CJB):

The Light of the World

“In him was life,
and the life was the light of mankind.

“The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not suppressed it.”

The word “life” here is zoe, meaning the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God (Strong-G2222). Zoe has but one source: God. This zoe literally produces a magnificent light in the spirit realm. What many artists have depicted as halos. It emanates from Jesus, filling the Heavens and enveloping all who belong to Him, men and angels alike. Though we may not yet see this light with our physical eyes, we can certainly witness it’s power in dispelling the darkness in our understanding of who God is and who we are in Him.

The more we give our lives over to the Zoe, the brighter His Light shines in us. And whether we can see this light or not, it is very visible to other spirits–good and bad. If we are carrying the Light, we should not be surprised when people begin to act differently around us or even become hostile. It has nothing to do with us–or them for that matter. It’s all about the Light shining in the darkness, and the darkness reacting to the Light. What we need to remember is this, the word which is often translated “comprehended” is katalambano which is more aptly translated, “to lay hold of so as to make one’s own,” which is why I chose the Complete Jewish Bible translation, here.

The enemy will try to extinguish God’s Light in you by any means possible. But remember, when Jesus remains the source of your light, the darkness has no choice but to flee.

Heavenly Father, You are my Life and my Life. In You alone I find all I need to sustain me. I surrender to You completely, Lord, that I may burn bright, rising above my need for the approval of others, to dispel the darkness and glorify You on Earth as You are in Heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
